DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM GRAVES (OR GRAVE) AND HANNAH ------ OF CLEATOR MOOR, KESWICK & EGREMONT, CUMBRIA, ENGLAND
William Graves (1) was born about 1821. According to various census records, he was born in Keswick, Crosthwaite, or Braithwaite, Cumberland, England. He married Hannah ‑‑‑‑‑‑, perhaps about 1858. She was born about 1828 in Workington, Cumberland. William, Hannah, and children were in the 1861-1891 censuses for Egremont, Cumberland. Their surname was spelled Grave in the 1861 census, which also showed Able Grave, 36, and Joseph Grave, 26, both iron miners and possibly brothers of William, living with them. William could not be positively identified in any earlier census records. His occupation was iron ore miner 1861-1881, and fireman in 1891. All their children were born in Egremont.
It is possible that William was closely related to Abel Graves of Keswick who married Sarah Stanley (genealogy 655). (R‑1)
