DESCENDANTS OF JAMES GRAVES AND MARTHA BENNET OF VT & NY

GENERATION 1

James Graves (1) was born about 1798 in VT, and died after 1860. He married Martha Bennet. She was born about 1799 in NY. They were in the 1840 and 1850 censuses in Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY. In the 1860 census for Fort Edward, James was living by himself next to daughter Elizabeth, and Martha was living with daughter Jane. James was a farmer. All their children were born in NY. (R‑1)

GENERATION 2

CHILDREN OF JAMES GRAVES (1) AND MARTHA BENNET

Laird Graves (2) was born about 1822 in NY. He married Eliza Ann ‑‑‑‑‑‑. She was born about 1827 in NY. They were in the 1860 census for Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY, living next to Peter Bennett, 36, tailor, Ireland. They were in the 1870 census for Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY. He was a farmer in 1860, and a boatman in 1870. Living next to him in 1870 was Mortimer and Martha Case, both 57, NY, likely parents of John Case. He has not been found in any census in 1880.

Elizabeth (“Betsey” or “Betsy”) Graves (3) was born 24 March 1825 in Argyle, Washington Co., NY, and died 21 Dec. 1905 in Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY. She married John Case. He was born about 1825 in NY. They were in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses for Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY. He was a farmer in 1850 and 1860, and a grocer in 1870. All their children were born in NY. (R‑1)

They were in the 1860 and 1870 census for Fort Edward, Washington Co., NY, with her mother living with them. He was a physician in 1860, and a druggist in 1870. All their children were born in NY.
