DESCENDANTS OF SARAH GRAVES AND WILLIAM BRICK
OF OH & IN
Sarah Graves (1) was born about 1811 in OH, and was baptized in Morgan Co., IN. She married William Brick. He was born 6 Sept. 1807 in OH, and died 3 March 1879 in Monrovia, Morgan Co., IN. After Sarah died, William married Mary Kelly. She was born about 1814 in that part of VA that was later WV, and died 21 Feb. 1880 in IN. She was first married to a Mr. Snodgrass.
William and Sarah were in the 1850 census for Adams Twp., Morgan Co., IN, with children Martha, James, and Milton. Their son Thomas was living nearby. All their children were born in IN. William and Mary were in the 1860 census for Mill Creek, Putnam Co., IN. He was a farmer.
At least one person has posted information on Ancestry.com stating that Sarah’s parents were Jonathan Graves who married Ann Hinson (of genealogy 85, the Quaker family of Thomas Graves of New Castle Co., DE). However, this connection seems to be wrong, since that Sarah Graves seems to have married her cousin Nathan Graves and moved to Stark Co., IL. (R‑1)

JAMES A. BRICK, of Monrovia, was born in this county August 6, 1845, and is the fifth of eleven children born to William and Sarah (Graves) Brick, natives of Ohio. When he was sixteen years of age, he left the home farm, and enlisted in Company H, Thirty-third Indiana Regiment, in which he served three years, and then became a veteran. He was taken prisoner at Thompson's Station, was confined thirty-two days in Libby Prison; was then exchanged, returned to active duty, and was with Gen. Sherman in his historic march to the sea; then sailed for Fortress Monroe, and was discharged at Indianapolis July 18, 1865. Mr. Brick was sunstruck at Peach Tree Creek. After coming home, he engaged in farming, but was compelled to abandon labor on account of impoverished health. August 6, 1865, he married Jane Brewer, which union was cemented by five children — Anna Eliza, Mary F., Minnie J., Elsie D. and Ella M.
